Phalin started as a beer promoter in the entertainment workers industry in Cambodia at a young age. Working in a low respected profession, Phalin faced many of the trials and tribulations of being a beer promoter in Phnom Penh. This motivated her to become an active member of the Cambodian Food & Service Federation (CFSWF) working to protect the rights of food and service sector workers in Cambodia. As a volunteer organizer, she started training beer promoters about labour organizing and occupation health security. She would work in CSFWF in the morning and as a beer promoter at night. Through CFSWF, she received training on computers and English language which empowered her to work her way up to become Vice President of the union. She’s shown a passion for entrepreneurship and creativity, is quick to learn new concepts, and has built a strong network of organizers as part of her campaigns.
